Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has has handed Engin Firat a three year deal to handle Harambee Stars

Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat is expected in Nairobi early next month when he will assemble a team to play three friendly matches in the next international window in March.

Confirming the development, a top FKF official said having worked with the tactician before, they are convinced he has what it takes to take the team places.

“When Firat first came here last year, we had a long term plan with him on how to take the team to the next level. Unfortunately we could not achieve much due to the FIFA suspension. Now we are back and we have handed him a three year contract which he has accepted,” said our source.

FKF believes the coach has what it takes to build the team to the highest level internationally.

“Firat had been shortlisted for the Turkey national team job before we hired him. That shows his credibility and ability and we want to benefit from it,” he added.

The coach handled Harambee Stars in two matches against Uganda and Rwanda before his short term contract expired.

Firat will have the responsibility of taking Harambee Stars to the next Africa Cup of Nations finals in 2026, the same year the World Cup will be held.
