Kamau, who also serves as FKF Lower Rift NEC member, spoke exclusively to Mozzart Sport following a worrying run of controversial officiating incidents in the National Super League (NSL).

Match week 33 of the second tier witnessed several chaotic scenes linked to questionable refereeing decisions across different venues.

At Gems Cambridge, match officials were attacked after the final whistle by angry fans who accused them of poor officiating during the clash involving Kibera Black Stars and 3K FC.

The same weekend in Wang’uru, Mwea, the match between Fortune Sacco and Migori Youth was temporarily halted after a section of supporters invaded the pitch, protesting officiating decisions.

Meanwhile, in Ndalani, Nzoia Sugar players were left furious at the final whistle after controversial calls from the referees, with tensions escalating further after one of the players was sent off.

Kamau, popularly known as 'Kass Kass' from his playing days at Shabana, believes the federation can help reduce such incidents by changing how referees are assigned to matches.

“We need to move match officials. We need to ensure that a referee can officiate a match far from his region, and that will at least ensure some level of fairness,” he told Mozzart Sport.

According to the former forward, the proposal becomes even more important now as the season heads into a decisive stage where both promotion and relegation battles remain wide open.

“With the current system, referees from one place are forced to end up officiating in their area, which is a bit tough, and it may be what is leading to the scenarios we are currently experiencing in the leagues,he explained.

“I know the federation has money. We need to try and send these officials all over, especially this time when promotion and relegation are yet to be decided.”

Despite the criticism surrounding officiating standards, the football administrator was also quick to defend referees who continue to give their best under difficult circumstances.

Kass Kass maintained that spreading referees across different regions would not only help improve fairness and confidence in matches, but could also play a major role in reducing the recurring controversies currently affecting the leagues.
