Tusker have endured a difficult start to the campaign, losing the two matches they have played against KCB and Posta Rangers.
The Charles Okere-coached side began the term with a 2-0 defeat to KCB FC, a side tutored by their former bossTusker tactician Robert Matano.
Last weekend, Tusker suffered yet another setback as they fell 2-1 to Posta Rangers, another side equally led by another ex-Tusker coach, Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo.
The slump is not just a problem of the current season. In their last 20 league matches, dating back to January 2025, the 2021 champions have managed just six wins — a disappointing return for a club that was very active in the off-season, recruiting 14 new players.
The two defeats have already sounded alarm bells, with fans in particular calling for the dismissal of head coach Okere, who has been in charge since the start of last season.
Okere began strongly last year, but a poor finish saw Tusker tumble from title contention to a fifth-place finish on the FKF Premier League log.
Speaking for the first time about the slow start, Gacheru admitted he expected a better run after a promising pre-season.
He challenged the players to rise to the occasion, starting with their next league fixture against Mathare United — a side that has historically proven tricky for the Brewers.
“It is definitely a disappointing start. We prepared the team well and expected a positive opening, but losing the first two games is a real alarm bell. We must turn things around, starting with the match against Mathare, because we cannot afford any more slip-ups this early in the season,” he said.
Gacheru further voiced frustration over the absence of Tusker players in the national team, noting that it reflects poorly on a club that has historically contributed heavily to Harambee Stars.
“Tusker FC is Kenya’s second most successful club, yet we do not have a single player in the national team. What does that say about us? As chairman, I am disappointed because in the recent past, we had several players regularly representing the country. I challenge our players to raise their performance, because good displays will not only benefit the club but also earn them national team call-ups," he added.
