Tusker FC assistant coach George Maina has warned that Nairobi United will pose a significant challenge when the two sides meet on Wednesday afternoon in Murang’a for match week 14 of the FKF Premier League.

Despite Nairobi United’s recent struggles with two defeats and a draw in their last three league matches, Maina emphasised that the league newcomers should not be underestimated.

“It will be a tough match. Games between Nairobi United and us have never been easy. They have been active in the CAF Confederation Cup, which has given them valuable match fitness.

We must approach the game carefully and execute our tactics well,” Maina said in an interview with the club's media.

He added, “It is even tougher because they are behind in matches and points, so they will be eager to make up ground. They are coming into this game hungry, and we need to be prepared for that.”

Tusker, who are aiming for a fourth consecutive league win, will be playing their penultimate match of the year and the second of three fixtures in a week. Maina believes the team’s recent form has built resilience.

“We only had two days to prepare, but the players have responded well. They have worked hard, and now we need to face the game with courage,” he noted.

The Brewers have been on a positive run, securing three straight victories, and Maina highlighted the confidence and cohesion this has brought to the squad.

“The belief has been there since the season began, but a good run strengthens it even more. We are improving game by game, and the team chemistry is growing,” he said.

In Murang’a, Tusker will meet a Nairobi United side looking to arrest a slide in form. The visitors have not won in their last three league games, but will take confidence from last season’s Mozzart Bet Cup, where they eliminated Tusker on penalties on their way to the trophy. Notably, this will be the first-ever league meeting between the two clubs.

Tusker sit third on the table with 21 points, level on points with leaders KCB FC but trailing on goal difference, while Nairobi United are 13th with 13 points, although they have four games in hand.
