To address the situation, the club has changed the coaching staff twice this season.
Currently, the club is under the guidance of Mulinge Ndeto and Mohammed Hassan, who serve as head and assistant coach, respectively.
The two are considered Ulinzi legends given what they achieved during their active years with the club.
Since their appointment in March, the duo has made strides in stabilizing the club, much to the delight of Birgen.
“I really want to appreciate them. They found us in a bad place and really got the team together to be able to string some good results. Hopefully, they get us over the line,” said the defender.
Birgen spoke after the duo led the club to a crucial 2-1 comeback victory over Mathare United on Saturday, 23 May at Ulinzi Sports Complex
“We had planned to score an early goal, but it was not forthcoming. Instead, Mathare took the lead. However, we had also prepared for this kind of scenario, and so the show of character to come back and win is a very positive take-home from the match,” added Birgen.
In the Saturday afternoon clash, Adams Nyambane gave Mathare the lead in the 48th minute before Paul Okoth grabbed a brace to turn the tie in favour of the hosts.
Meanwhile, the versatile defender explained his role, senior players are expected to play in their bid to survive the axe.
“It is a very difficult moment for the team, but I have to be the first one to show how brave the team should be and encourage the boys.
Luckily, I am not alone, even though I am the one putting on the armband. We have Muchiri (Boniface), Muchika (Bonventure), Timothy (Odhambo), Masinde (Alex) and many other senior players who are helping in that role,” he added.
