The Kakamega Homeboyz custodian has fallen down the pecking order after the arrival of James Ssetuba from Ihefu in Tanzania
Despite the high competition for playing time from the duo of Farouk Shikalo and Ugandan international goalkeeper James Ssetuba, youthful Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper Ibrahim Wanzala is confident of getting regular playing time soon.
Wanzala hasn't seen playing time this season due to the competition from the experienced duo who have been alternating in between the sticks during competitive matches.
Last season, Wanzala played second fiddle to Shikalo and Godfrey Oputi although, he managed to get playing time in a few league and Mozzart Bet Cup matches.
Oputi was the most senior custodian at Homeboyz in the first leg of last season but left the club in the mid-season transfer window.
The former KCB goalkeeper has since transitioned to coaching as he is an assistant at National Super League side Luanda Villa
However, the arrival of Ssetuba from Tanzanian Premier League side Ihefu FC in the transfer window pushed him down the pecking order, limiting his appearances on the bench on match days.
The former national U17 team goalkeeper is however determined to have his full breakthrough and relegate the seasoned duo to the bench.
"I am working towards reclaiming my place in the first team. I played more than ten matches last season and would love to have such an experience again. I want to show it in training and win the confidence of the coach and everyone in the team," said Wanzala.
The 18-year old who has also been slowed by malaria in recent times but he believes he will return stronger and help the team gather consist results after a rather slow start in the league.
Wanzala joined Homeboyz last year from Mayenje Santos who were relegated to the FKF Division One league after giving last season's activities a wide berth.
