The Law Enforcers welcomed their military counterparts for an FKF Premier League match played on Wednesday, 1 October, where both teams failed to find the back of the net.
The match was Police’s season opener as they aimed to defend the league title after their historic win last season, while Ulinzi were playing their third league match of the campaign.
Speaking to the media after the match, Nyaudo explained why it was important for his side not to lose against Police, noting the roles of the two parent sponsors, the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and the Kenya Police Service, to the nation.
“When it comes to playing Police, it is a big match for us because you know what the military means to the country; we protect even the Police, and therefore if we lose against Police, it is a big thing for our employer.
We always try as much to perform better, and that is why you see it is not easy for Police to win against Ulinzi. We play our hearts out, and it is for something,” said Nyaudo.
While the veteran coach went into the match seeking victory, he explained why he believes a draw was a fair result for his side, even as they still struggle with scoring.
“We scored in the first match, created numerous chances in the second, including three denied penalties and in the third, played against the champions; a team with five national team players as compared to us with only one, and so I believe we have given a good account of ourselves,” he added.
Despite scoring only one league goal this season, on the other end of the pitch, the 2010 league champions have not conceded a goal this campaign, an improvement that has seen them collect five points so far this season.
“From last season, I was clear in my vision that I was trying to build a young team which could only grow.
We will perform well this season, especially in the first leg, before we lose players who are going to join the military, but we have prepared well to cover that,” stated Nyaudo.
