The league is set to take a festive break before resuming in January.
Kenyan international Paul Were came on in the first half as Rayon Sports suffered back-to-back defeats this time to Gasogi United in the Rwandan Premier League.
Victory would have seen Rayon reclaim their position at the summit of the log which is currently being occupied by AS Kigali, home to Kenyan duo of Lawrence Juma and Peter Odhiambo.
Kigali still hold a two-point advantage but Rayon have seen their game-in-hand wiped out with the second leg of the season expected to commence in early January.
Following a tough start to the first half, Rayon head coach Masudi Juma opted to take off Leandre Onana in the 31st minute as Were was introduced in his place.
Gasogi however took the lead in the third minute of first half extra time when Christian-Theodor Yawanendji-Malipangou brilliantly controlled a long ball to fire it into the back of the net.
Rayon failed to take their chances in the second half after creating a number as Gasogi managed to successfully hold on to the crucial three points.
The title race is heading up in Rwanda as the first-placed team and fifth-placed side are only separated by two points.
