Goals from Alvin Mang’eni and David Okoth gave the Law Enforcers a deserved win, lifting them to second place in the group.
However, the result was not enough to secure passage to the semi-finals, as Tanzania’s KMC edged them out to claim the best runners-up spot across the groups.
Police had gone into the game needing to finish among the best second-placed teams.
Their hopes were dashed when KMC held defending champions APR of Rwanda to a 1-1 draw in Group B, a result that left both sides on seven points.
APR advanced as group winners on goal difference, while KMC claimed the coveted runners-up ticket.
The outcome was a bitter pill for the Kenyan side, considering that their campaign had started brightly with a resounding 4-0 win over Djibouti’s Garde Cotes.
A costly 2-1 defeat to Singida Black Stars in their second match ultimately proved decisive in their failure to progress.
With their Kagame Cup adventure over, Police now turn their attention to a busy schedule.
They face Gor Mahia in the FKF Super Cup this weekend before taking on Mogadishu City FC in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
Although the FKF Premier League season begins on 20 September, Police’s opening match will be delayed owing to their continental commitments.
Meanwhile, three teams have already booked their places in the semi-finals. Rwanda’s APR, along with Tanzanian sides Singida Black Stars and KMC, have advanced.
Singida topped Group A with seven points after defeating Garde Cotes 1-0 in their final game, while APR and KMC shared spoils in their crunch Group B encounter.
In Group C, the final semi-final spot will be determined on Wednesday when Mogadishu City Club face Al Ahly Wad Madani and Sudan’s Al Hilal Omdurman meet Kator FC of South Sudan.
APR will play the winners of Group C, while Singida Black Stars will face KMC in the other semi-final.
