The race for the 'Golden Boot' is getting more competitive with each match

After missing the opening two rounds of action as their players were away on national duty, Madira Soccer Assassins announced themselves in the top-tier women’s league with a massive win over Trans Nzoia Falcons on Sunday, October 22.

Rising Starlets’ Valerie Nekesa made her debut in the Women Premier League memorable as she scored four of Madira’s five goals to silence the opposition fans at the Ndura Sports Complex in Kitale.

The national U20 team captain, Jane Hato, also carried her spectacular show for the country over to the club, as she was the other scorer for the school girls.

Nekesa opened the scoring in the fifth minute, and the rest of the first half was quiet as Trans Nzoia managed to hold their own against the menacing Madira schoolgirls, the match heading to the break with one goal as the difference.

Eight minutes into the second half, Hato doubled Madira’s advantage, and after that, the show was all Nekesa as she bagged her second in the 77th minute, made it a hat-trick three minutes later, and capped the performance off with an added time strike for the 5-0 victory.

In another match played on Sunday, Ulinzi Starlets, who had been reduced to 10 players in the 30th minute when Kezia Ikhungu was sent to the locker rooms early, still managed to run rings around Nakuru City Queens for a 5-0 victory.

The Joseph Wambua-coached charges had Neddy Atieno and Lucy Nato bag a brace each, while new recruit Rita Ojwang opened her account for the military side.

Hosts Nakuru worked well to stop Ulinzi from scoring in the first half, the match heading to the break in a goalless stalemate.

However, the side crumbled like a cookie after Neddy opened her side’s account two minutes into the second half.

The Kenyan international doubled the advantage in the 51st minute before Nato’s first and the team’s third six minutes later. She bagged her second in the 76th, while Rita bagged a 90th-minute strike for the massive win.

Other matches saw Zetech Sparks bounce back to winning ways with a 4-0 win over Bunyore Starlets. Anne Arusi bagged a hat-trick, while Rebecca Kwoba added the fourth for the Bernard Kitolo-led varsity side.

Elsewhere, Gaspo women defeated Bungoma Queens 1-0 through an Emily Andayi strike as Kibera Soccer fought for a 2-1 win over Wadadia FC.

On Saturday, holders Vihiga Queens shared the spoils with Kenya Police Bullets in a one-all draw.
