WPL: Bunyore Starlets whip Trans Nzoia Falcon as Vihiga Queens stun Kibera Soccer

The inaugural women super league also started this weekend

Airin Madalina grabbed a brace as Bunyore Starlets good start to the 2023–24 FKF Women’s Premier League campaign continued with a 4-0 win over troubled Trans Nzoia Falcons at the Mumboha Ground on Sunday afternoon.

Last week, Bunyore shock GASPO Women 1-0 to kickstart the season on a high note whereas Falcons were at the receiving end shipping in 5-0 against a much revamped Zetech Sparks.

Agnes Olesi opened the scoring for Bunyore in the 29th minute before Noel Shilacho doubled the scores ten minutes later with a well-placed thunderbolt from the edge of the box to send a half packed Mumboha into frenzy.

Less was to happen in the first stanza to put home as a determined Bunyore dominated each aspect of the game and headed into the breather on the control seat.

The start of the second half was less dramatic, and it took 22 minutes for the first goal of the second half to be scored through Madalina, who extended the starlets lead. Madalina completed her brace in the 90+1 minute to hand Bunyore their best start to the season since promotion to the big stage.

At the Wolves Den, FKF Women’s Premier League four-time champions Vihiga Queens built on last week win over Ulinzi Starlets with a convincing 3-0 triumph over newbies Kibera Soccer Ladies.

Last week, Kibera played out a barren stalemate against fellow newcomers Bungoma Queens and needed a statement win in front of their home fans but Vihiga had other thoughts as they left the slum girls hapless at their own backyard.

Kibera went ahead with 1 minute 40 seconds on the clock through Nancy Atako before Moraa Janet equalized in the 14th minute and Waliula Tumaini finished the job with her first brace of the season scoring in the 25th and 84th minute.

FKF Women National Super League

In the newly created Football Kenya Federation Women National Super League Mombasa Queens got a narrow win over Macmillan Queens with Happy Mutta on the scoresheet.

Kisumu All Starlets started life in the second tier with a convincing 2-0 win over Kisped Queens to win the bragging rights in the Kisumu Derby in a match staged at Moi Stadium, Kisumu. Rosemary Otieno and ever lethal Monica Etot made to the scoreboard to hand their team first win if the campaign.

Siedah Tsisika brace and Becky Nafula strike was enough for Gideon Starlets to beat Eldoret Falcons in game played at Opaga Primary School Grounds, Homabay on Saturday to fuel the teams anger for promotion this season after missing out last season narrowly.

Kayole Starlets started the season in the second tier with a 4-0 statement win over Falling waters credit to Eglay Mukhwana brace, Mercy Manguro and Sarah Chalovu goals while Eunice Mwangi sole strike was the difference as Mathare United Women left it late to pick maximum points against MTG United in Malindi.
