WPL: Ulinzi gun down Kisped as Gideon Starlets hand Kayole painful football lesson

Following the win, Ulinzi moved to two points within the reach of league leaders Police Bullets

Ulinzi Starlets secured an important 3-0 over Kisped Queens in a match played at the Mamboleo Stadium, Kisumu to reduce the gap between them and league leaders Kenya Police Bullets.

Ulinzi went into the match third on the log with 26 points, five shy of Police Bullets and tied on points with second-placed Vihiga Queens.

Kisped, on the other hand, placed 11th with four points, two better than Kisumu Allstarlets, who are stuck at the bottom of the log.

With the intention to keep pace with Police, Ulinzi named a strong line up that, included Rising Starlets trio of Lorine Ilavonga, Quintet Adhiambo and Elizabeth Mideva as well as the experienced Mercy Oiro and captain Diana Shakava.

The military side opened the scoring in the 23rd minute courtesy of an own goal from a corner.

Mideva doubled their lead five minutes later after connecting well to a Shakava cross, giving the visitors a two-goal cushion heading to the break.

The military side had a professional performance in the second half that saw them preserve their lead and add a third to take home all points.

The Collins Ochieng-coached side is now on 28 points, two shy of Police while Kisped remain 11th with four points.

At the Ruaraka Sports Ground, Gideon Starlets compounded Kayole Starlets’ woes by handing them a 4-0 defeat.

Gideon took the lead in the 27th minute through an own goal by Mercy Mang’uro, before Jael Salano doubled their lead in the 45th minute.

In the second half, a 77th minute own goal and a 84th minute strike were enough to earn the league newbies three points.

Despite the win, Gideon are still in the relegation zone, as they placed 10th with 13 points, three off Kayole Starlets and Madira Soccer Assasins.

In the other matches of the day, Madira grabbed a 1-0 victory over Kisumu Allstarlets in a match played at the Nyang’ori Grounds.

Jecinta Wangare scored the all-important goal.

Bungoma Queens also secured a 1-0 win over Trinity Starlets in a match played at the Bungoma Polytechnic Grounds.
