The encounter was historic as it was the first WPL tie to be played under the floodlights, giving women's football fans a memory they will cherish for years.
Police headed to the match sitting second on the log with 43 points, having been temporarily toppled by Ulinzi Starlets, who had played earlier.
Kibera Soccer, on the other hand, were fifth on the log with 28 points and keen to leapfrog Vihiga Queens, sitting on 30 points.
The match started at a slow pace, both teams struggling to find their rhythm under the floodlights, with possession being traded in quick succession through misplaced passes.
The match remained even for the rest of the opening half with no team creating any significant opportunities, as they both settled for a goalless draw at halftime.
In the second half, both teams upped their urgency. Police were keen on utilising the flanks, while Kibera employed direct attacks in search of Esse Akida.
It was not until the 61st minute that Police captain Elizabeth Ochaka took matters into her own hands, unleashing a thunderous strike that went past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net to break the deadlock.
The goal gave Kibera an even better reason to push for their opener, but their deliveries to Akida were wanting.
With the final whistle approaching, Rebecca Okwaro stepped forward in the 94th minute, dribbled past the Kibera defense and slotted home the second goal to guarantee the Law Enforcers a 2-0 victory.
Ulinzi Starlets 3-1 Vihiga Queens
In a match played earlier at the same venue, Ulinzi Starlets grabbed a convincing 3-1 win over Vihiga Queens to keep their title race alive.
All four goals in the match were scored in the opening half, with Elizabeth Mideva netting a hat-trick for Ulinzi with goals in the 15th, 41st and 46th minutes, while Vihiga’s consolation was bagged by Harambee Starlets midfielder Airin Madalina.
With the results, Police are at the top of the league table with 46 points, two more than Ulinzi Starlets, as Trinity Starlets come a distant third with 34 points.
