Kenyan clubs are still chasing the CAVB Club title with Prisons Kenya's silver the best result thus far
Coach Gideon Tarus has named a squad of 12 that will do duty as the General Service Unit (GSU) make a return to the CAVB Men’s African Volleyball Club Championship set for Thursday, 17 to Wednesday, 30 April in Misurata, Libya.
The paramilitary side touched down in the North African country on Wednesday, 16 April, ahead of the draw for the competition that, as of Friday, 7 March, had received 32 registrations.

GSU had sat out of the last two editions, citing financial constraints, and as they make a return, coach Tarus kept their goals simple; “Our target is to win against every opponent we face,” he told Mozzart Sport.
The former national champions are looking to end a 20-year wait for a podium finish. The side’s last podium place dates back to 2005 when the competition was hosted in Benin, GSU finishing third.
Only Prisons Kenya have broken the podium jinx since then, with a silver in 2011 and bronze last year.
“We have been rebuilding the team, and from the performance in the national league, I am confident in my team’s abilities to take on the competition we face in Libya.
We have a mix of young players, who are playing at this level for the first time, and an experienced lot that is expected to provide the much-needed guidance. We are ready for action,” Tarus added.
GSU boasts a squad that has some key Wafalme Stars, the national men’s team, players led by middle blocker Shadrack Misiko and outside hitter Nicholas Matui as well as libero Hudson Kipchumba, who was put to the test in last year’s African Games in the absence of first choice libero in the national team, Sam Juma.
