Kenya schools draw defending champions Amus College in FEASSSA football

The draws for the 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games were conducted on Thursday, August 7, at the GNS Plaza building in Old Kampala, Uganda.

The regional championship will run from August 12 to 23, 2025, in Kakamega County, Kenya.

In boys’ football, Kenyan representatives face tough assignments, with defending champions Amus College of Uganda among their opponents.

Group A features three Kenyan teams: national football silver medalists Musingu High School, Kakamega County champions Butere Boys, and 2024 national champions Highway Secondary School.

They will line up against Uganda’s Buddo SS and Amus College, Rwanda’s CGFK Kicukiro, and Tanzania’s Kizuka Secondary School.

Group B will have Kenyan gold medalists St. Joseph’s High School, Kitale, taking on last year’s silver medalists St. Mary’s Kitende (Uganda), E.P.M. Mpanda (Burundi), Benjamin Mkapa (Tanzania), Bukedea Comprehensive (Uganda), fellow Kenyan side Agai, and APE Eugunga (Rwanda).

FEASSSA Treasurer Patrick Okanya, who presided over the draws, said the format was adjusted to ensure competitive balance and more playing time for students.

“FEASSSA aims at allowing students to play as many games as possible. We did not allow any pools with fewer than four teams, and where entries fell below that, we moved to a round robin format,” Okanya explained.

“Where a country has presented four teams, the national champion and number four fall in the same group, while numbers two and three are placed in the other group. Champions from each country have been spread equally to avoid having all of them in the same pool.”

Okanya added that sports with enough entries were drawn into two pools, with national champions distributed evenly, while Kenya, as the host nation, will decide which discipline and team will feature in the opening match.

Due to the large number of entrants, the following sports will be played in a round-robin format: Scrabble, Chess, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Badminton, Rugby Sevens, Hockey, Beach Soccer, Beach Volleyball, Lacrosse, and Cricket.

Major team sports, including football, volleyball, basketball, handball, netball, and rugby 15s, will be contested in Pools A and B for both boys’ and girls’ categories.

The event will also include primary school competitions in football, volleyball, netball, and athletics, with teams from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda participating.

Additionally, special needs education (SNE) events such as junior and senior goalball will be staged concurrently, underscoring FEASSSA’s commitment to inclusivity.
