David Munyua delivered one of the most insane performances at this year’s World Championship and continued his magical run
Kenyan newcomer David Munyua delivered one of the biggest surprises of the PDC World Championship, overturning a two-set deficit to eliminate world number 18 Mike De Decker in a gripping finale to Thursday afternoon’s session.
Munyua had already shown plenty of promise on his Alexandra Palace debut, but few expected the underdog to mount a comeback once the Belgian edged to within a single set of victory.

The 30-year-old veterinarian had to dig deep. He missed chances to take the second set, then spurned opportunities again in the third before finally claiming it. Momentum swung his way as he narrowly secured the fourth, setting up a decisive fifth set that he battled through to seal a remarkable win.
Having earned his place through the African Darts Group Qualifier, Munyua was broken in the opening leg of the decider. However, he responded with a sensational 135 checkout — outer bull, treble 20, bullseye — to draw level, then kept his composure to close out the match. Speaking on stage afterwards, Munyua called the victory "amazing" and described it as a "very big moment for the sport, for Africa and for Kenya".

Sky Sports pundit and former BDO world champion Mark Webster was full of praise, saying: "This is what the World Championship is all about. Forget about the stats in terms of big averages - it had drama all the way through. David put in a big performance. It just backs up that we're going global with this sport."
