
KHU announces dates for elective AGM

The Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) has officially announced that it will hold its long-awaited elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, 26 July, at Maxwell Church Adventist Halls starting at 2:00 PM.

This will mark the first election in seven years, with the last held in January 2018, despite the Sports Act 2013 requiring federations to hold elections every four years.
In a notice signed by KHU Secretary General Wycliffe Ongori, the union confirmed that elections will be conducted during the AGM as part of the official agenda.
The elections will cover ten key executive positions, including:
1. President
2. Two Deputy Presidents
3. Secretary General
4. Deputy Secretary General
5. Treasurer
6. Deputy Treasurer
7. Match and Fixtures Secretary
8. Deputy Match and Fixtures Secretary
9. Public Relations Officer (PRO)
The notice emphasised that all candidates must be members of associations duly registered with the Registrar of Sports Organisations and affiliated to the Union.
Nominations must be submitted in writing, proposed by one member, seconded by at least two others, and must include the candidate’s written consent.
The complete nomination must reach the office of the Secretary General at least 14 days before the AGM.
Further, the notice reiterated that all aspirants must meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the Sports Act.
Each member association is entitled to send two delegates to the AGM. The names of these delegates must be submitted in writing to the Hon. Secretary General at least seven days prior to the meeting.
According to the KHU constitution, those eligible to vote at the elections are:
1. Two representatives from each of the registered CHA (County Hockey Associations)
2. Two representatives from the KHUA (Kenya Hockey Umpires Association)
3. All the Board or Committee Members of Africa Hockey Federation (AfHF) and International Hockey Federation (FIH)
4. One representative from Kenya University Sports Association (KUSA)
5. One representative from Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA)
According to Article 16(g) of the Kenya Hockey Union Constitution, 50% of members entitled to vote during the AGM constitutes a quorum and elections can be conducted.
The full agenda includes the roll call, confirmation of minutes from the last elective AGM held on January 13, 2018, addresses from the President and the Secretary General, the Treasurer’s financial report and audited accounts, appointment of auditors, resolutions submitted in line with the Constitution, and finally, the elections.
The current office holders who have been in position since 2018 are:
President: Nahashon Randiek
Deputy Presidents: Elyna Shiveka and Michael Malungu
Secretary General: Wycliffe Ongori
Treasurer: Godfrey Bila
Match and Fixtures Secretary: Jane Nyamogo
Assistant M&F Secretary: Moses Majiwa
Public Relations Officer: Leonard Mutuku
This election comes at a pivotal moment, as many in the hockey community have long called for leadership renewal and full compliance with the Sports Act.
It will be closely watched to see who throws their hat in the ring and what direction the next leadership will steer the Union for the 2025–2029 term.
