Kipruto, Juma out of Wafalme Stars squad for CAVB Zone Five Africa Games qualifiers

The team is looking to qualify for the Africa Games for the first time since 2011
As the national men’s volleyball team Wafalme Stars Head to the CAVB Zone Five Africa Games qualifiers, coach Gideon Tarus has named his final squad.
The competition slated to serve off on 26 January will see Kenya take on hosts Egypt and Burundi, the two teams that have confirmed their participation so far.
Experienced Sila Kipruto and first-choice libero Sam Juma who suffered an injury that had him sidelined are the two players dropped from the squad of 16.
Under the captaincy of setter Brian Melly, Wafalme will look to make a return to the Africa Games for the first time since 2011.
"After two weeks of training, we have picked the best possible squad for battle. I am confident the players selected for duty will have the job done. We want to qualify as the best-placed team from the zone," head coach Tarus offered.

The team will see the return of Elphas Makuto who was part of the 2021 squad that played in Rwanda for the Africa Championship as well as Levis Ogutu. The duo missed last year's assignment in Egypt.
Fielding exclusively Kenyan based players, Tarus will have several debutants in his ranks including 20-year-old libero Hudson Kipchumba, Equity's middle blocker Wilson Cheruiyot, outside hitter Denis Esokon and Nicholas Matui.
The squad, alongside their female counterparts Malkia Strikers are scheduled to leave for Egypt on 23 January.
