The 21-year-old tennis star walked away with a combined cash prize of Ksh1.49 million after completing a remarkable double at the ITF World Tour Nairobi W35 tournament, which concluded on Sunday, 11 January at the Parklands Sports Club.

Okutoyi capped off a perfect two-week run by defeating Italy’s Martina Colmegna for the second time in as many weeks, this time winning 6-3, 7-6 in straight sets to secure her second consecutive singles title.

Just a week earlier, she had edged the Italian 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in a tightly contested final.

Her dominance translated directly into financial reward. Each singles title earned her US$4,860 (Ksh631,800), while her doubles victories fetched US$881 (Sh114,530) each.

In total, Okutoyi pocketed US$11,482, approximately Ksh1,492,660, making the Nairobi leg one of the most lucrative stretches of her young career.

Beyond the prize money, the victories have significantly boosted her standing on the global stage. Okutoyi entered the tournament ranked 558th in the world but collected 70 ranking points, jumping 82 places to 476th. She has now set her sights firmly on breaking into the top 300.

“I am short of words to explain this. I am grateful to have achieved a quartet of victories, including two in singles and two in doubles. This is the first time I am doing that, and I give glory to God,” the visibly elated Okutoyi said after the finals.

She also enjoyed success in the doubles category, teaming up with Demi Tran of the Netherlands to beat Alyssa Reguer (France) and Yufei Ren (China) 6-2, 5-7, 10-4 in the final.

A week earlier, she had lifted the doubles trophy alongside Zuzanna Pawlikowska, outclassing the same opponents 6-2, 7-5.

The back-to-back doubles triumphs will further improve her doubles ranking, where she started the tournament placed 252nd globally.

Okutoyi is currently on a sports scholarship at Auburn University in Alabama. She will return to the United States to complete her final semester before turning professional.

“I leave for college, where I have one semester left. I should be through with my studies in June this year, and after that I will turn professional,” she said.

Okutoyi is pursuing interdisciplinary studies in business, sports coaching, and non-profit management, a foundation she hopes will complement her growing tennis career.
