Mwathi's Strathmore remain the only unbeaten side and are keen to keep the record going
Strathmore University HC play on-form Rangers HC in a Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) men's league match set for Nyayo Handball Court on Sunday 5 September 2021, as the varsity side looks to extend their unbeaten run to 11 matches.
The Peter Mwathi-coached varsity side are second on the log tied at 20 points with leaders National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) who have lost one of their 11 matches.
On their part, the Gerald Juma-coached Rangers are coming off two victories on Saturday. The Kimilili-based side picked a 29-25 victory against Gunners before seeing off Vickers 36-33 to move seventh on the log at 11 points.
"Strathmore's game is intense and being title contenders they will not want to drop points so we anticipate a tough match. They are also on a revenge mission as we defeated them for their only loss in the last season which was not concluded due to Covid-19. We have prepared well and my players are ready for the fight," said coach Juma.
Before guiding his men against Mwathi's charges, coach Juma had another heavy task as his women's league side, Rangers Women, take on unbeaten Ulinzi Sharks who are coming off a 37-24 win against rivals Nanyuki Women HC.
"We lost our Saturday matches against NCPB and Kenyatta University Vampires albeit closely. This will be another tough match but being our debut season, I am not putting pressure on our players. They are young and out to learn. In the next two seasons, we can say we are at a point where we can compete against these top teams. In today's match, execution of our plays will be key as our focus is not so much on the final results," Juma offered.
In other matches, Thika-based Amazon play varsity side Vampires while former champions Black Mamba take on Vickers.
NCPB will be looking to extend their stay at the helm of the league with a win against Embakasi military men Gunners. General Service Unit (GSU) who have been impressive in their second season in the league take on another military side, Thika HC as the former look to pick maximum points to go third on the log.
