Nakuru RFC were off to flying starts, hitting Kenyatta University's Blak Blad 17-7

Dala 7s champions KCB Rugby, Embu 7s defending champions Strathmore Leos, Kabras RFC, Menengai Oilers, and Mwamba RFC registered wins in the opening round of the ongoing Driftwood 7s at the Mombasa Sports Club.

Pool A

Nakuru RFC were off to flying starts, hitting Kenyatta University's Blak Blad 17-7.

The Nakuru-based team commonly known as Wanyore finished seventh- in Dala 7s, Kisumu last weekend with Blad on the other hand finishing 12th in Dala 7s Division II category.

They headed to the Coastal City keen to showcase their sleek form. The students still have a chance to redeem themselves when they face KCB Rugby and Nondescripts RFC.

KCB Rugby managed their first clean sheet in the early hours of the morning by edging Nondies RFC 22-0 under the unforgiving heat of Mombasa. Judging from their first match, the bankers are definitely a force to be reckoned with this circuit.

Pool B

In Pool B, Homeboyz RFC started off badly against Driftwood 7s hosts Mombasa RFC, before gaining momentum to defeat them 21-7.

The Deejayz are looking to build on their Dala 7s performance where they came too close to qualifying for the quarterfinals.

Kabras RFC defeated neighbors Kisumu RFC 36-5 in the second match of the pool. The sugarmen are hoping to pick up from where they left during Dala 7s.

They qualified for the finals, but proved to be weaker than their rivals KCB Rugby who beat them 17-5.

Pool C

National 7s Circuit defending champions Menengai Oilers are in Mombasa to put one statement across - it is too early to rub them off.

The oilers humbled Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) Rugby 31-5 in the opening match of this pool.

On-form Strathmore Leos showcased their fine form by seeing off Catholic Monks. Strathmore finished their Dala 7s campaign at fourth position after a 31-0 loss to KCB Rugby in the semifinals.

Pool D

Daystar Falcons were off to a disappointing start, narrowly losing 20-19 to Kenya Harlequins. The students appear to be in perfect form for Driftwood 7s and only time will tell how far they will go. They still have matches against Mwamba and Kabarak University.

Meanwhile, Mwamba RFC hit Kabarak University 17-14.
