Abuto announced his exit on his social media handles, expressing gratitude for his time at the club
Former University of Eldoret (UoE) Trojans backrower Alvin Abuto has parted ways with Switzerland-based Hermance Région Rugby Club, where he had been a key player since joining in September 2023.
His departure marks the end of a significant chapter in his career. At the club, he played a crucial role not only on the field but also in talent development.
Abuto announced his exit on his social media handles, expressing gratitude for his time at the club.
"Good things always come to an end. It was a pleasure playing for a great team ...you became family to me; I'll always respect that. I will always be with them to support the team at any cost. Thank you for the good times," he posted.
During his first season with Hermance, Abuto contributed to an impressive campaign.
The team reached the semifinal stage of the Championship League and went on to clinch the Swiss Cup title after defeating RC Yverdon in the final.
With the taste of success still fresh, Abuto remains ambitious about his rugby career. His next move remains uncertain; whether he will stay in Switzerland or return to Kenya but he remains open to opportunities.
"My target is to achieve a lot in rugby, learn more about the game, be open if I get other opportunities, and also to pass knowledge and opportunities to others," he said in a past interview with Mozzart Sport.
Before his move to Switzerland, Abuto played a pivotal role in the UoE Trojans' Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Championship campaign. He last featured for the team in their final league match in February 2023, helping them secure a sixth-place finish, just missing out on the playoffs.
About Hermance Region Rugby Club
Nicknamed ‘Dragons,’ the HRRC was founded on December 15, 1971, by Yves Laboure who was the club's first president. The club initially had members from various communes in Switzerland and neighbouring French villages.
As it expanded over the years, local officials and regional personalities began supporting its development. It secured its ground in Hermance, France, and with the help of its members, it transformed salvaged buildings into changing rooms and a clubhouse. It was there that the club was renamed to Hermance Region Rugby Club.
Today, the club boasts over 200 members, with the highest population being children.
The side’s legacy includes a total of 12 Swiss Champion titles and eight Swiss Cups.
