Daystar Falcons made history at the 2025 Kabeberi 7s after reaching their first-ever final in the National 7s Circuit.

The youthful side fell 20-10 to defending champions KCB Rugby in the final played on Sunday, 7 September at the RFUEA Grounds. Despite that, a second-place finish marked a turning point in the team’s growth.

The Falcons had already broken new ground by making a maiden semifinal appearance in the circuit.

They saw off Menengai Oilers in the quarterfinals before overpowering Strathmore Leos in the semifinals.

What stood out for the students was their solid defense, coupled with improved conversion of scoring chances, which highlighted just how far they have come since earlier legs.

The Daystar Falcons delivered moments of flair but could not string them together consistently.

Clinton Amukwachi led their tally with five tries, making 25 points, while Patrick Odongo followed with four tries for 20.

Eddy Wambugu chipped in with three tries and six kickable points to reach 21, while Tonny Ogoma added three tries for 15.

Other scorers included: Arnold Agonda with two tries, Moses Keragori with a try, and late contributions from Emmanuel Marakha and Duncan Olile, who crossed the whitewash once each.

Vincent Omuroka added two kickable points, rounding off Daystar’s tally.

At the Embu 7s, the team had consistently found themselves inside the opposition’s 22 without turning those opportunities into points.

That shortcoming forced the technical bench to rethink its approach.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, head coach Caleb Bosire revealed that the answer lay in embracing video and data analysis.

“We assessed the way we play, and we have been working with Tisini, who gave us the data. We realized that we had entered the green zone, but we were not completing our tries. But you could see that we were patient even under pressure, and we capitalized on our opponents’ mistakes,” the visibly excited Bosire offered.

The partnership with performance analysts reshaped how Daystar Falcons prepare.

Each Tuesday is now dedicated to reviewing game footage and statistical breakdowns from Tisini, followed by feedback sessions between coaches and players. Training happens on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with weekends devoted to applying set targets in competition.

“Even on Saturday, after our matches, I had to go and review the Oilers’ games to see where we would capitalize. Every weekend, we have our targets, and we work on areas that need refinement,” Bosire continued.

That meticulous preparation paid off in Kabeberi. Though KCB dominated possession in the first half of the final, Falcons held their own and clawed back late with a try that showcased their resilience.

“I am thrilled and proud of the boys despite the loss. What we have achieved today (Sunday), we have never achieved. Maybe if we had possessed more in the first half, things would have changed. But it is good that the boys dug deep in the last play and got something. So, I am very proud,” he offered.

At the center of the Falcons’ rise are a core of young players, and Bosire insists they are only scratching the surface of their potential.

With video and data analysis now at the heart of their strategy, the team has found a winning formula to compete with the country’s elite sides.

“We have a young side, and I believe they have not reached the pinnacle. So we are still working,” the tactician affirmed.

Heading to the Dala 7s, the students have been placed in Pool B, where they will face off with Mombasa RFC, Kenya Harlequin, and Kabeberi 7s Division Two champions Nondies RFC.
