
Kenya Sevens appoint mental strength coach ahead of Hong Kong 7s

Kenya Sevens have been galvanised by the services of a mental coach as they gear up for the Hong Kong 7s slated for Friday 28 to Sunday 30 March 2025 in China.
Binny Brahmbbatt, an experienced Mental Strength Coach who has worked with some of Kenya’s top teams and athletes has taken up the crucial role.
Her impressive resume includes CECAFA Championship winners (Kenya U-15 team), KCB Rugby Men’s team (2021-2022), and the Kenya National Women’s Rugby Team (Lionesses, 2022-2023).
She has also worked with Diamond Football Club athletes and coaches (2019-2023) and holds a Mental Strength Coaching Certificate from the National Strength Conditioning Association (NSCA – USA).
“I have conducted capsule workshops for the Sports Authority of India’s hockey team in December 2021. I am a licensed and registered Counseling Psychologist in Kenya, under the brand Binny Empowers, with almost a decade of experience working with adolescents, youth, professional athletes, coaches, and parents through individual and group sessions on their mental health, strength, and well-being,” she said.
Currently, she has been appointed as the Mental Strength Coach for both Kenya Lionesses and Kenya Shujaa.
In preparation for the Lionesses' trip to Cape Town, she and the team conducted two mental strength sessions. Additionally, on Thursday 10 March, she led her first workshop with Kenya Shujaa.
“I hope to continue imparting mental strength skills amongst these incredible athletes and witness their growth as they combine mental strength skills with their robust technical and physical abilities,” she added.
The importance of a mental strength coach was echoed by Kabras RFC head coach, Carlos Katywa after they won the 2022/23 Kenya Cup title. He pointed out the club’s investment in mental coaching as a key factor in their success.
“It was a season full of different approaches for us to win the Kenya Cup, including our defense and even getting a mentalist coach to assist us,” coach Carlos revealed.
