London 7s: Shujaa out to ease relegation worries

Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 28.05.22. | 08:52

Shujaa are seven points from relegation places heading into London 7s.

The men’s national rugby 7s team, Shujaa will be out to put some distance between themselves and relegation when they take to the field in the London Sevens on Saturday 28 May.

Shujaa have endured disappointing outings in the Toulouse, Vancouver and Singapore 7s, results which cost Innocent ‘Namcos’ Simiyu his job coupled with the horror show at the Africa 7s where Kenya barely scraped through to qualify for the Rugby Sevens World Cup.

Having had more time to prepare for the London 7s newly installed head coach Damian McGrath and his assistant Kevin Wambua will be hoping to register improved performances after another poor performance in the Toulouse 7s.

The newly installed technical bench had only three days to work with the squad before the Toulouse 7s with the results understandable but London should offer inspiring performances for Shujaa who have looked a pale shadow of themselves.

Going into the London 7s tournament where the team has been grouped in Pool B alongside reigning series champions South Africa, current series leaders Argentina and Ireland who got to their first-ever HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series last time out.

Shujaa will kick off their London 7s tournament with a clash against the in-form Ireland at 12:16 with a clash against Argentina following at 3 PM and they will close Day 1 with an encounter against South Africa at 6:08 PM.

Kenya are out of form with just two wins in the last 11 games and need to turn their fortunes around as they are staring down the barrel with seven points separating them with the relegation places.
