Onyala and Mwale will miss the two tournaments.
Shujaa head Damian McGrath has handed the duo of Ronnie Omondi and Bob Muhati maiden call ups to the team ahead of the second and third legs of the 2023 Sevens World Series in Dubai and Cape Town.
McGrath revealed that the two procured themselves the caps courtesy of the stellar show they put in the National Sevens Circuit.
“We’ve introduced two more new caps who were two of the most outstanding players on the recent National Sevens Circuit. Muhati is coming in the forwards and Omondi comes in at half back,” he told KRU media.
The tactician dished debut call ups to Strathmore Leos George Ooro and Dennis Abukuse Menengai Oilers utility player to the Hong Kong Sevens held last month.
“We’ve got faith in both these two players, they’ve trained very hard and very well and they will join Ooro and Abukuse from the last leg as new starters,” he said.
While naming the squad, McGrath disclosed that the experienced duo of Vincent Onyala and Bush Mwale had been dropped from the team thanks to an injury and ‘off the pitch’ issue respectively.
“Unfortunately, we’ve lost Onyala to a season ending injury, which is a real blow for the team. He is one of the world’s best seven players in my opinion and he’ll be a difficult man to replace. Mwale has been unavailable for training, because of the off-field issues, he’s had to take a part time job, which means he’s not available for training,” he added.
Shujaa squad: Nelson Oyoo (Nakuru,Captain), Johnstone Olindi (KCB), Daniel Taabu (Mwamba), Bob Muhati*(KCB), George Ooro(Strathmore Leos), Ronald Omondi*(Mwamba), Billy Odhiambo(Mwamba), Kevin Wekesa (Kabras Sugar), Anthony Omondi (Mwamba), Herman Humwa (Kenya Harlequin), Edmund Anya (Impala), Willy Ambaka, Dennis Abukuse (Menengai Oilers)
