The event brought together rugby legends, club supporters, and well-wishers for a night of fun and purpose
Mwamba RFC fans, ex-players, and well-wishers started their new week wearing smiles that masked the exhaustion that had begun to take a toll on them.
The club community was treated to a fundraiser that went down in style on Sunday, February 9, at the Beer District, and it was nothing short of a success.
The event was held to support the club’s transition to their new home at Goan Institute.
It brought together rugby legends, club supporters, and well-wishers for a night of fun and purpose.
The night was graced by some of Kenya’s finest rugby personalities, including former Kenya 7s stars Lavin Asego who doubled up as the host, Collins Injera, and his brother Humphrey Kayange.

Former Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) chairman Mwangi Muthee, current KRU boss Sasha Mutai, Mwamba coach Mark Mshila, KRU director of rugby Paul Odera, and former Mwamba RFC players, coaches, and devoted fans were also in attendance.
Beyond the fundraiser, the night also served as a tribute to Mwamba RFC’s rich history.
Founded in 1977, the club has long been a pioneer in Kenyan rugby, including being the first to establish a women’s rugby team.
The club’s chairman, Jason Braganza, reiterated the club’s commitment to inclusivity and development, noting that the move to Goan Institute would not only provide a permanent home but also allow for pitch rehabilitation and the provision of resources to help the club achieve greater heights.
"We are here to celebrate Mwamba’s legacy and future. This is about more than just a pitch, it's about ensuring that the club continues to grow and provide opportunities for players," Braganza said.
Asego kept the energy high and fans got the chance to participate in exciting raffles and auctions.
Up for grabs were water bottles, laptop bags, Mwamba RFC merchandise, and t-shirts. The biggest prizes included a night in Diani, much to the excitement of attendees.
Seasoned auctioneer George Billy handled the bidding wars, ensuring that every item found a home while boosting the club’s fundraising efforts.
Speaking at the evAfter Injera emphasized the values that made Mwamba the ideal club for many players. "After Ulinzi Rugby disbanded, I needed a club that stood for something beyond the pitch.
Mwamba’s values and inclusivity made it the perfect fit," Injera shared.
As the formal proceedings wrapped up, the night took on a more relaxed tone, with music filling the air as attendees jammed to the beats, celebrating a successful event.
The celebrations reached climax when the legends hit the dance floor, moving to the rhythm of I Just Can't Stop by Don Carlos.
