The sponsorship reflects KBL’s ongoing commitment to supporting Kenyan rugby, a relationship that has spanned over three decades.
Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), through its flagship brand, Tusker, has announced a Ksh22 million partnership with the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) to support this year’s Safari Sevens tournament.
The sponsorship positions KBL as the official alcoholic beverage and entertainment partner for the event, which is set to take place from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 October 2024 at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
The sponsorship reflects KBL’s ongoing commitment to supporting Kenyan rugby, a relationship that has spanned over three decades.
Tusker first became the title sponsor of the Safari Sevens in the early 1990s, establishing itself as a key player in the development and growth of the sport in the country.
This year’s partnership marks yet another milestone in that legacy, further solidifying the brand’s dedication to both the tournament and the sport of rugby.
Speaking during the announcement, KBL Managing Director Mark Ocitti expressed the company’s pride in being part of Kenya’s rugby story.
“At Kenya Breweries, we are thrilled to once again be involved in this prestigious tournament. Rugby holds a special place in our hearts, and we are proud to continue our legacy of supporting the Safari Sevens,” Ocitti said.
“Following our successful sponsorship of the 2024 National Sevens Circuit, this Ksh22 million investment reaffirms our continued commitment to the growth and development of rugby in Kenya.
We see this as an opportunity to contribute to both the present and the future of the sport, helping to nurture the next generation of talent while also providing fans with an exciting, unforgettable experience,” he continued.
Ocitti emphasized KBL’s dedication to ensuring that the Safari Sevens remains one of the most vibrant and well-supported events in the regional rugby calendar.
KRU Vice-Chairman Moses Ndale welcomed the partnership, highlighting the importance of the sponsorship in ensuring the smooth running of the tournament, especially given the logistical challenges involved in hosting an event of such scale.
“KBL has been one of our most consistent and valuable partners, and we are delighted to have them on board once again for this year’s Safari Sevens. Their support over the years has been instrumental in elevating the tournament to the level it enjoys today,” he noted.
“When you think of rugby in Kenya, the name Tusker inevitably comes to mind. It’s a brand that has become synonymous with the sport, and we are grateful for their continued backing,” he offered.
In addition to the rugby action, KBL’s sponsorship will bring a unique entertainment experience to the Safari Sevens, enhancing the festival atmosphere that the tournament is known for. Fans can expect a wide array of activities, including live music performances, food and drink offerings, and a vibrant fan zone, all designed to ensure an unforgettable experience for spectators.
