Kenya Sevens put up a brave fight but ultimately succumbed 26-10 to Great Britain in the Vancouver leg of the HSBC SVNS held at the BK Arena on Saturday 22 February.
The match started on a promising note for Kenya as Floyd Wabwire crossed the whitewash for the opening try, giving Shujaa an early lead.
However, Great Britain quickly found their rhythm and responded with two well-taken tries, both successfully converted, to take a 14-5 advantage into halftime.
Kenya came back from the break determined to turn the game around, and Wabwire was once again at the heart of their attack.
He finished off a well-executed move to score his second try of the match, but the missed conversion left the scores at 14-10, keeping Shujaa within striking distance.
As Kenya pushed forward in search of another breakthrough, Great Britain capitalized on a lapse in defense, with Harry Glover extending their lead with another try.
Shujaa momentarily regained possession and looked to create an opportunity, but unfortunately, an interception turned the tide in Great Britain’s favour. The ball found its way to Charlton Kerr, who raced over the line to add to the scoreboard.
With the final conversion attempt missing its target, Great Britain sealed a 26-10 victory, ensuring Kenya remained without a win in Vancouver. Despite the loss, Shujaa showed moments of brilliance, especially through Wabwire’s finishing ability and their attacking intent.
Kenya will now shift focus to their upcoming fixtures as they aim to bounce back and secure crucial points in the tournament.
