The duo is looking to reclaim the title that was, in 2018, won by South African Caster Semenya as Beatrice Chepkoeh settled for silver, Faith Kipyegon won the 2014 title in Glasgow.
Chebet will be keen to make amends after her performance at the world championships where she made the final only to finish last. Jebitok who was also in Oregon for the world championships fell in the heats after clocking 4:07.12 just outside the qualification places.
Meanwhile, Boniface Mweresa anchored Kenya to a top-place finish in heat two of the 4x400m preliminaries to book a ticket to the final with a season best time of 3:06.76.
Hurdler Wiseman Were was first on the track, bringing the baton home in third place, but with much perfect handover to William Rayian, Kenya ran the second lap in second place.

William Mbevi ran the first half of his lap ahead but the rest of the field caught up with him at the bend and he handed the baton over to Mweresa in third place. The Kenyan stayed with the rest of the field until the last 100m or so where he unleashed his killer kick to build a comfortable lead and ease into the finish line for first place.
India was second in 3:06.97, Trinidad and Tobago third in 3:07.12 while Barbados got a non-automatic qualification slot with a 3:07.23 run.
Botswana held on for the win in heat one in a time of 3:05.11 as Jamaica and Zambia settling for the other two automatic places. Nigeria got the other non-automatic slot after a 3:06.36 show.
