Kenya will have four representatives in the women's marathonat the World Championships as the defending champions.

World champion Ruth Chepngetich headlines a list of four women named by Athletics Kenya (AK) to represent the country at this year's World Championships set for Oregon.

Chepngetich, who last month ran the second-fastest women's only marathon in winning the Nagoya Marathon in 2:17.18, will be defend the title she won in Doha in 2019.

Chepngetich who hold a Personal Best time of 2:17:08 will be joined by in-form Abu Dhabi marathon champion Judith Jeptum who on Sunday clocked clocked 2:19.48 to not only set a new PB but smash the women's course record at the Paris Marathon.

In winning the marathon in extreme weather at the French capital, Jeptum broke Purity Rionoripo's course record set in 2017, proving her current form that saw her clock a half marathon PB of 1:05:28 one month ago is no fluke.

Also making the women's team is Amsterdam marathon gold and silver medalists Angela Tanui who won in a 2:17.57 to set a personal best while Maureen Jepkemoi clocked 2:20.18 for second place and a place in the world championships team.

Meawhile, the men’s team that will attempt tk wrestle the title from Ethiopians who took a 1-2 in Doha is led by Olympian and Valencia marathon champion Lawrence Cheron.

The 2019 Boston Marathon champion will be looking to forget his Tokyo Olympic woes where he finished fourth to bag a medal in the classic distance while representing the country.

A 2:03.04 runner, Cherono is joined in the list by three-time world half marathon champion and double Newyork marathon (2017, 2019) gold medalist Geoffrey Kamworor.

The two, who are set to be in action at the Boston Marathon on 18 April, will be joined in Oregon by Barnabas Kiptum, bronze medalist at the 2021 Milano marathon. Geoffrey Kirui is the team reserve.
