Letsile Tebogo announces his first race of 2025 season

The 21-year-old sprint sensation begins his build up to the World Athletics Championship 2025 in Melbourne
Olympic 200m champion and World Athlete of the Year Letsile Tebogo will get his 2025 season underway at the Maurie Plant Meet, World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, in Melbourne on Saturday 29 March.
Tebogo blazed his way to a dominant Olympic 200m victory in Paris after stopping the clock in 19.46, making him the fifth-fastest man in history. In Melbourne, Tebogo will test out his endurance by contesting the 400m.
“I am excited to compete for the very first time in Australia and open my 2025 season at the Maurie Plant Meet as the Olympic 200m champion,” Tebogo said.
Tebogo has established himself as one of the world’s most consistent and versatile sprinters since bursting onto the scene with world U20 100m titles in 2021 in Nairobi and 2022 in Cali.
He earned world 100m silver and 200m bronze in 2023 before going on to achieve Olympic 200m glory in 2024.
He owns a 9.86 PB over 100m and the fastest 300m time in history at 30.69, but it is the 400m in which he will stretch his iconic stride in Melbourne.
“I will be stepping up to the challenge of the 400m,” said the 21-year-old, who has a PB of 44.29 for the distance. “Starting the season with this long-distance challenge will set the stage for what’s ahead. I’m ready to push my limits and make every moment count.”
In Melbourne, Tebogo will be joined on the start line by the three men he teamed up with to earn Olympic 4x400m silver in Paris: Bayapo Ndori, Leungo Scotch and Victor Ntweng.
