Kenya finished top of the overall standings for the third straight year after collecting nine medals: three gold, four silver, and two bronze, in another commanding display on the world stage.

World 10km record holder Agnes Ng’etich led the charge with a brilliant victory in the women’s senior race, while Frankline Kibet powered to gold in the men’s under-20 event.

Kenya also topped the men’s U20 team standings, highlighting the country’s depth in young talent.

Emmanuel Kiprono added a silver medal in the men’s U20 race, as Kenya’s teams secured silver in the men’s senior, women’s senior and women’s U20 categories. Daniel Ebenyo and Andrew Alamisi delivered bronze medals to complete the impressive haul.

The Tallahassee triumph continues Kenya’s recent dominance at the championships, following table-topping finishes in Bathurst in 2023 with 10 medals and Belgrade in 2024 with 11.

Mvurya said the latest success once again confirmed Kenya’s position as the world’s leading distance-running nation.

“I extend my warmest congratulations to Team Kenya for an exceptional and commanding performance at the World Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee.

Our athletes once again showed why Kenya remains the undisputed powerhouse in distance running,” Mvurya said in an interview with Athletics Kenya media.

He also lauded all 35 athletes who represented the country, noting that their commitment and fighting spirit reflected the nation’s pride.

“Every athlete who wore the Kenyan colours competed with courage, resilience and honour. Whether on the podium or not, you represented the country with distinction,” he added.

The Sports CS attributed the success to sustained government investment in sports development and athlete welfare under President William Ruto’s administration.

“This achievement underlines the value of continued investment in sports infrastructure, talent development and athlete welfare.

The government remains committed to building a strong system that supports athletes from grassroots to elite level,” Mvurya said.

He concluded by thanking Athletics Kenya, coaches, medical teams and all stakeholders involved in preparing the squad.

“Your dedication ensured Team Kenya arrived fully prepared and ready to compete. You have once again inspired the nation and elevated Kenya’s standing on the global stage.
