Kenya took all the top five positions in the women's senior race
The senior women's race at the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, showcased an extraordinary lineup of talent. Amongst the contenders was defending champion Beatrice Chebet, alongside renowned names such as World 10km record holder Agnes Ngetich, Sirikwa Classic Cross-Country champion Emmaculate Anyango, and American sensation Weini Kelati, among others.
As the race kicked off, it was the Kenyan squad that surged to the forefront, with Agnes Ngetich spearheading the charge. Not far behind trailed Beatrice Chebet, accompanied by a formidable pack including Uganda's Joy Cheptoyek, setting a blistering pace that left the Ethiopian contingent struggling to match.
Maintaining her composure amidst the intense competition, Lilian Kasait emerged as a notable presence, her impressive track record serving as a reminder not to discount her from contention. As the laps progressed, the Kenyan dominance became increasingly evident, with Emmaculate Anyango seizing control at one point, determined to secure her maiden global title.

Despite a valiant effort from the lone Ethiopian representative, Sisay Gola, the Kenyan contingent continued to assert their dominance. By the final stretch, it was clear that the podium would be adorned with Kenyan colors.

In a dramatic finish, Agnes Ngetich led the charge, closely pursued by Emmaculate Anyango and defending champion Beatrice Chebet. With a burst of energy in the closing moments, Chebet surged ahead, crossing the finish line with an impressive time of 31:05 to successfully defend her title. Kasait and Kipkemboi followed closely behind, securing second and third place respectively, in a testament to Kenya's unparalleled prowess in cross-country running.
