Kenya defended the mixed relay title from Australia 2023 in a domineering style at the ongoing World Cross Country Championship. The team which consisted of Cheruiyot, Virginia Nyambura, Kyumbe Munguti and Purity Chepkirui was leading from the first to the last minute, increasing the lead throughout the race and finishing at 22:15, over Ethiopia (22:43). Great Britain finished in third, clocking 23:00.

Reynold Kipkorir Cheruiyot was in the lead from the very beginning, followed by Hosea Kiprop from Uganda, who took over the lead in the first part of round 1, before Taresa Tolosa mixed in. Cheruiyot took the lead again and this time Hafid Rizqy was behind him. Cheruiyot remained in the lead and clocked at 06:05 before giving the wristband to Virginia Nyambura. Dahdi Dube was right behind her while others were miles away. She was in the lead, clocking at 11:43 when she gave way for Kyumbe Munguti who increased the lead over Adehena Kasaye. The lead was 16:31 to 16:51 before Munguti ended, and Purity Chepkirui took over.

Like it was not enough that the distance was so big already, but Ethiopia’s Adehena Kasaye stepped on Birri Abera’s shoe. She tried to put the shoe on but failed, and continued to run with one bare foot. Luckily for her, her colleagues made such a big difference that she remained in second place after all, while Great Britain came in third.
