The defender has been battling recurring injuries for more than a year, limiting his appearances at the competitive level

Kakamega Homeboyz defender Potiphar Odhiambo is hoping to catch a break from injuries and return to action.

Odhiambo suffered a patella tendon injury on his right knee during the finals of the second edition of the Elijah Lidonde Super Cup, where Homeboyz defeated the AFC Leopards 1-0 to be crowned champions.

The latest injury setback has seen the highly-rated centre-back miss action for close to a month, with a 1-0 defeat to the Nairobi City Stars being his last league match engagement.

The one-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the 2021 National Super League season has been a key figure in Homeboyz's defence, forming a solid partnership with Brian Chala following the exit of Robinson Kamaura, who left the club at the start of the season after the expiry of his one-year contract with the club.

Odhiambo was instrumental at the back in AbanaBeingo's five-match winning streak, where Homeboyz won without conceding a goal.

The right-footed centre-back career has largely been disrupted by the recurring knee injury. Despite the fresh setback, which has left the defender dejected,Odhiambo is hopeful for a speedy recovery.

"I feel disappointed by the injury hitch because this happened at a time when I was beginning to gain rhythm after a lengthy period without constant playing time. However, I am hopeful of soon being back to action, he uttered.

In regards to Homeboyz's foregoing five-match winless run, Odhiambo has exuded confidence that the defending inaugural Mozzart Bet Cup champions will soon put an end to the rough patch.

"Managing a point from a possible 15 is not what we had targeted for in the preceding five matches we have played. Nonetheless, it is a normal phase in football, and I am confident we will halt the bad run," added the one-time emerging star under-23 player.

Odhiambo further states that he hopes to play a part in the final phase of the season, having begun his rehabilitation a fortnight ago.

I started my recovery session two weeks ago, and so far I am faring well. I hope to fully recover and get some minutes under my feet before the league ends," he added.
