A new twist: Neymar won’t sign a new contract with PSG, wants to go to Barca

Neymar. Again. The Brazilian is under the spotlight again. Not another injury, not another visit to sister’s birthday party, it’s about his longtime wish to play with Lionel Messi again. So far, his plan was working well: Sign a new (bigger) contract with PSG, and bring Messi to Paris. It looked certain at the begining of 2021, but now, when Barca is playing for the title and Laporta is back, it looks like Messi will not come to Paris, unless he is on a family visit. So, Neymar decided to do the opposite.

The latest reports from Spain („Sport“) suggest that the Brazilian hasn’t signed the already prepared contract extension, because he want’s to go back to Barcelona! In France, „L'Equipe“ proclaim officially that there is a 'Neymar Case“. The French newspaper reports that Neymar's maintains his desire to play alongside Messi once again and the return to the presidency of Joan Laporta allows thoughts that a deal could be possible.

This one can be a long shot, considering that PSG paid a world record 222 million euros to Barcelona and certainly don’t want to sell him to a bitter rival for less. Also, Neymar’s former agent believes that no other club can afford him, apart from PSG.

„Only PSG can afford the luxury of Neymar. Real Madrid have financial problems, Barcelona? Even worse. In Italy no club can compete, and Manchester United or Manchester City? I don't think so" said Wagner Ribeiro for the L’Equipe.

Neymar to sign a new 5-year contract with PSG

His former agent also revealed that Neymar wanted to sign for Barcelona when he was in Brazil, even with Real also showing interest. Ribeiro also revieled that PSG owner and Neymar met a year before his transfer to Paris.

"He could no longer refuse. PSG paid Barcelona 222 million euros and offered him a net salary of 36 million euros a year. It is impossible to refuse such an offer. Real were willing to pay 300 million euros, but Nasser Al-Khelaifi said that not even for one billion euros would he leave" Ribeiro said.

After new rumors started to appear, the player's entourage confirmed that Neymar will stay in PSG, stating that he "likes the project".
