AC Milan to extend with Maignan to prevent the 'Donnarumma case'
Reading Time: 2min | Fri. 27.09.24. | 10:50
The Rossoneri do not want to lose another keeper without compensation, as happened with the Italy captain
Since arriving from Lille in 2021, Mike Maignan has been one of the best AC Milan players and arguably most deserving of the Rossoneri's Scudetto in the 2021/2022 season. Even though he has a contract until the end of June 2026, Milan want to avoid any risks and are set to offer the 29-year-old an extension until 2028 with an annual salary of €5 million euros plus bonuses. The deal is allegedly supposed to become official in the upcoming weeks.

Recently there have been constructive and positive talks between Milan and Maignan's entourage.

Despite toying with the idea of the extension for some time, Maignan's performance in the Derby della Madonina and Milan's 2-1 triumph, definitely urged the Rossoneri's representatives to speed up the negotiations with the custodian. They are aware at San Siro that they have one of the best keepers in the world and do not want to lose him without compensation, as in the case of Gianluigi Donnarumma and his move to Paris Saint-Germain.
In the meantime, Paulo Fonseca and his boys are preparing for the Serie A clash against Lecce, full of confidence and positive energy after the triumph over the city rival. Considering his recent poor form, Rafael Leao has been training individually, especially on defensive things, which the 51-year-old strategist confirmed at the press conference.
Still, he'll be forced to change his starting lineup compared to the duel with Inter, given that Alvaro Morata suffered an injury and won't be able to help his teammates. Hence, Fonseca is expected to start with only one centre forward since the Spaniard's understudy, Luka Jovic, didn't prove to be an adequate replacement. Instead, either Ruben Loftus-Cheek or Tijjani Reijnders will presumably have a more offensive role in the midfield.
