AFCON 2027: Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to unveil roadmap at ‘Pamoja’ summit

Speaking at Talanta Plaza in Nairobi while hosting Samson Adamu, Mvurya reiterated Kenya’s commitment to delivering a successful and globally competitive event

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are set to take a major step in their joint preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with a high level ‘Pamoja’ meeting scheduled for next Thursday to unveil the roadmap towards hosting the continental showpiece.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya confirmed that the summit will bring together ministers from the three nations to deliberate on critical areas, including visa facilitation and tax exemptions, as momentum builds towards the tournament.

Speaking at Talanta Plaza in Nairobi while hosting Samson Adamu, Mvurya reiterated Kenya’s commitment to delivering a successful and globally competitive event.

There are a number of decisions we will be making next week. We will be having a Pamoja meeting that will bring together Ministers to discuss matters such as visas, tax exemptions and many others,” said Mvurya.

CAF will be the key facilitator of the event, and we will be announcing the roadmap that will guide the three East African countries towards the AFCON 2027,” he added.

The CS noted that the meeting with the CAF official was also an opportunity to congratulate him on his new role while reaffirming Kenya’s readiness to play its part in hosting the tournament.

We have a lot of activities ahead to ensure we deliver a successful tournament,” he said.

In the same event, Mvurya presided over the official handover of the AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee (LOC), ushering in a new phase of structured planning and coordination.

Veteran football administrator Nicholas Musonye will chair the 38 member committee, with Hussein Mohammed serving as vice chairperson, while Antony Lungaho takes charge as the chief executive officer.

The committee brings together a blend of experience from across the sporting and administrative landscape, including Evans Achoki, McDonald Mariga, Brigadier Titus Sokobe, Osman Abdi, June Chepkemei, Mary Mwiti, Nuh Ibrahim, Agnes Kalekye and Peninah Wahome.

Others named in the committee include Douglas Ratemo, Timothy Kilimo, Dr Doreen Odhiambo, Lilian Nyawada, former FKF CEO Lordvick Aduda, K K Mutai, Juma Maulidi Wahoga, Rebecca Natabo Ekwam, Robert Macharia, Timothy Nabea, Abdalla Yusuf Ibrahim and Ahmed Qadar Dabar.

The list is further complemented by Gabriel Mghendi, Peter Kamau, Kerubo Momanyi, Benard Lagat, Collins Kalee, Caleb Amwayi, Ken Rungu, former AFC Leopards chairperson Dan Shikanda, Charles Njagi, Thomas Karugu, Evelyn Cheluget, Miriam Chepkoech, Rodgers Chimega, Diana Injendi Manyengo and Collins Were.

The LOC Secretariat will be based at the Ministry of Sports headquarters at Talanta Plaza in Upper Hill, Nairobi, with Lung’aho overseeing the day to day management and coordination of activities.

Mvurya also took time to commend the CHAN 2025 organising team led by CEO Mike Rabar for successfully staging the tournament, noting that it had elevated Kenya’s profile both on the continent and globally.
