Amorim needs Mbeumo 2.0 to beat Toffees: Cameroonian's new role for Monday's clash

Manchester United are about to face Everton without Sesko and Cunha, which could trigger a new position in the starting XI for the African forward

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim may need to get creative tonight as his in-form side - unbeaten in their last five Premier League matches - await Everton at Old Trafford (11 pm). With Liverpool and Manchester City slipping up this weekend, United have a real chance to close the gap on the leaders.

They'll have to do it without Benjamin Sesko. The striker picked up a knee injury in the draw with Tottenham and is out for several weeks. Matheus Cunha is also a doubt after suffering a training-ground knock, forcing him to withdraw from a planned public appearance in Altrincham for "medical reasons".

With two forwards potentially unavailable, Amorim could turn to Bryan Mbeumo in a new role. The Cameroonian has mostly operated as a No.10 since arriving at Old Trafford, but may be asked to lead the line if Sesko and Cunha both miss out.

If so, Mason Mount and Amad Diallo are expected to play just behind him. Young Diallo thrived as a No.10 last season and, despite impressing as a right wing-back this term, remains most dangerous in advanced positions. Noussair Mazraoui is the likely candidate to cover the flank.

On the left, it looks to be another start for Patrick Dorgu ahead of Diogo Dalot. The Dane performed well against Spurs and impressed for his national team over the break, while Dalot continues to look uncomfortable on that side. Amorim sees Dorgu as the long-term option, and Monday night should reinforce that trust.
