Amorim's legacy: Empty bench and a multi-million hole in United's finances
Reading Time: 2min | Wed. 07.01.26. | 19:45
According to reports from England, the Red Devils will have to pay around £12 million to the manager they sacked 18 months before the expiration of his contract
Ruben Amorim is gone, but the problems at Old Trafford are piling up. The first issue, of course, is finding a new manager and a caretaker to begin with. Sources from England claim that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick are frontrunners for that position, while Darren Fletcher will lead Manchester United against Burnley tonight (23.15).
However, apart from leaving the empty bench, Amorim will leave a gigantic multi-million hole in the club's finances.
When he arrived last in November 2024, the Portuguese agreed on the annual salary of £6.5 million. At the same time, the Red Devils paid £11 million worth of compensation to Sporting Lisbon, as well as £10.4 million to the 40-year-old's sacked predecessor, Erik ten Hag.
And now, given that Amorim was fired approximately 18 months before the expiration of his contract, United will have to pay him around £12 million!

If we add the new manager's salary to the equation, the total cost of this shift at the Red Devils' bench may likely reach £50 million!
Considering the club's tricky financial situation - way too expensive.
