Another round, another mini final — Arsenal host Fulham with no room for error

A win would see the Gunners move six points clear of Manchester City, although they would have played two more matches in that scenario — still, the psychological advantage would be on their side

Another massive test awaits Arsenal, as the Premier League leaders host Fulham this evening knowing a win could open up a six-point gap over Manchester City.

Momentum—and pressure—are shifting constantly in this title race. Arsenal recently edged ahead after City briefly climbed to the top for the first time since August, and now Mikel Arteta’s side has the chance to tighten their grip. It’s unlikely to be comfortable, though, with nerves expected as the Gunners chase a first league crown in over two decades. Still, victory here would pile serious pressure on Pep Guardiola’s team ahead of their trip to Everton.

All of this comes in the middle of Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League semifinal clash with Atletico Madrid, after securing a valuable 1–1 draw in the Spanish capital. Two wins in quick succession would leave them in a commanding position both domestically and in Europe—an opportunity they can’t afford to waste.

Fulham, meanwhile, are no pushovers. Despite inconsistent form this season, Marco Silva’s side remain firmly in the hunt for European qualification. Sitting 10th with 48 points, they’re just two behind Brighton & Hove Albion in sixth, and will fancy their chances of causing problems.

Arsenal’s recent league performances haven’t been entirely convincing. Their narrow win over Newcastle last weekend was more about getting the result than impressing, and there’s a sense they’re grinding their way toward the finish line. The demands of facing Diego Simeone’s Atlético twice could yet take a toll on their title push.

With May now underway, there’s hope among supporters that the team will find a second wind at the perfect moment. Any slip here would give City an opening, even if their own upcoming fixture looks tricky. At this stage, even a six-point cushion—games in hand aside—would feel significant.

Arteta is unlikely to rotate heavily despite the packed schedule, especially with key players returning. Bukayo Saka is back in contention and could make his first Premier League start since March, providing a major boost. There’s also expectation that Eberechi Eze will feature prominently out wide, while Kai Havertz is still working toward full fitness and may not be ready. As for Jurrien Timber, his return remains uncertain despite ongoing hints from the manager.
