Ashimoto has previously played for the FC Talanta, the defunct Wazito, and the Kisumu All Stars.

Former national U20 team defender Roland Ashimoto reckons that National Super League debutants Luanda Villa will build on their good start in the season and secure one of the two available promotion slots.

Despite being new in the competition, Luanda showed that they mean business after thrashing Mombasa Elite 5-0 to start the season on a high.

Goals from Timothy Ndayala,Harrison Tiema, Samuel Maya, and Emmanuel Juma, and an own goal by Delle Riziki, saw Luanda beg for maximum points in day one.

The win, according to Ashimoto, is a strong indicator that the team has what it takes to navigate through and get promoted at the end.

Luanda are in the second tier by virtue of being the FKF Division One Zone B champions, where they beat Zoo in the promotion race.

"I believe every team in the second tier is gunning for promotion, and so are we. We started well, and hopefully we will have a successful season. We also have a good squad," he said.

Ashimoto, a younger brother to Harambee Stars center back Johnstone Omurwa, joined Luanda after running out of contract at Rainbow FC, who are also new to the league.

Rainbow got promoted after clinching the FKF Division One Zone B league at the expense of Nairobi United, who later prevailed in the promotion/relegation playoff.

Migori Youth were also interested in the former FC Talanta player, but it was Luanda who won his signature.

He revealed that he consulted widely, including his family, before making the choice.

"I had two offers after leaving Rainbow. I asked advice from friends and family members before choosing Luanda. I hope I will have a good season with the club and even hit a new level with them," he added.

Ashimoto has previously played for the FC Talanta, the defunct Wazito, and the Kisumu All Stars.
