In a wild friendly game in Basel, Switzerland had the lead twice in the first half, but were ultimately stunned by the Liverpool forward's two goals and as many assists, 4-3

Florian Wirtz's performances with Liverpool this season were mediocre, to say the least. Occasionally, he'd shine, and more often, he'd disappoint. Nevertheless, once the forward puts on the Germany jersey, he starts to resemble his old self, a player who convinced the Reds to splurge €125 million on his move from Bayer Leverkusen to Anfield.

Last night, Switzerland saw Wirtz at his best, as the 22-year-old's second-half brace crushed the home team in Basel and brought Germany a hard-fought 4-3 win.

The Swiss were up twice in the first half, after Dan Ndoye and Breel Embolo's goals, but Bayern Munich's duo, Jonathan Tah and Serge Gnabry, managed to keep the score tied at the break, while the Reds' forward set up both equalizers.

Wirtz's show continued in the 61st minute, this time embodied in goals, when he put Die Mannschaft in front for the first time. Murat Yakin's golden sub Joel Monteiro levelled 18 minutes later, but Wirtz took the stage once again five minutes before the end. Both strikes were absolute bangers, and it's hard to determine which one was more beautiful.

Interestingly, although it was a friendly match, Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann made only four subs, while his colleague on the opposite bench made as many as 10.

It only depicts how serious the Germans are and that no game is irrelevant to them. That mindset brought them four World Cup trophies, and they'll definitely aim for another one in a few months in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
