He also weighed in on the quality of football, stating that the Tanzanian league ranks higher than the Kenyan Premier League.
Newly appointed Pamba Jiji FC head coach Francis Baraza has confirmed that his team will hold their pre-season training camp in Kenya, where they are set to face several top-tier sides in friendly matches.
Baraza officially joined the Tanzanian club on Wednesday after parting ways with Kakamega Homeboyz, following what was largely considered a successful 2024/25 season. He took over when the team was struggling near the relegation zone and led them to a commendable third-place finish in a league ultimately won by Kenya Police FC.
Pamba Jiji FC, home to Kenyan striker Mathew Tegisi, will now set up base in Kenya to prepare for the upcoming season. Baraza, who previously coached Biashara United and Kagera Sugar in the Tanzanian top flight, confirmed the plans.
“We shall be in Kenya for a couple of weeks to prepare for the upcoming season. We have lined up exciting friendly games against Kenya Premier League teams,” he told The Star Newspaper.
Baraza also expressed his gratitude to Homeboyz for the support and for facilitating his return to Tanzanian football.
“I want to thank the management of Kakamega Homeboyz for allowing me to join Pamba Jiji. I have had a good relationship with the management, the players, and other stakeholders,” he added.
Reflecting on the coaching environments in Kenya and Tanzania, Baraza pointed out notable differences, particularly in how coaches are treated and the general working conditions.
“The Tanzanians know how to treat coaches. They give us a free hand to do our work, and the working conditions are better than here at home. It’s always a refreshing challenge to work in Tanzania,” he remarked.
He also weighed in on the quality of football, stating that the Tanzanian league ranks higher than the Kenyan Premier League.
“In my analysis, the Tanzanian Premier League is about fifth or sixth ranked in Africa. The league also attracts the best players and coaches from the continent,” he noted.
Baraza becomes the second Kenyan coach to join the Tanzanian league during the current transfer window, following Zedekiah Otieno’s move to Tanzania Prisons on Wednesday.
