Galatasaray are four points clear of Fenerbahce ahead of the tonight's derby (8 pm)

The Bosphorus trembles - it's a battle for Istanbul, for all of Turkey!

Galatasaray or Fenerbahce, Europe or Asia - a title-deciding "D-Day" or the end of all suspense?

Neither side comes into tonight's derby (8 pm) at the Lions' den in ideal shape. Both were surprisingly eliminated from the Turkish Cup. Galatasaray suffered a particularly painful blow, losing 0-2 at home to Genclerbirligi, while Domenico Tedesco's side fell in Konya, conceding in the final moments of the added time (0-1).

Galatasaray hold a four-point advantage over their fierce rivals, meaning even a draw could be enough to keep them firmly on course for the title. Still, Okan Buruk's team arguably has the edge in quality, and a win would all but seal the championship. For Fenerbahce, the pressure is even greater: second place, and with it a UEFA Champions League qualifying spot, is also under threat. A defeat could see them overtaken by Trabzonspor if results go against them.

There is, however, a major boost for Galatasaray. Victor Osimhen has fully recovered from injury and is set to lead the line. The striker had broken his arm at Anfield during a Champions League clash with Liverpool, and only returned to action a few days ago. While he may not last the full 90 minutes, his presence is a significant lift. Veteran Mauro Icardi stands by as an alternative, having slipped down the pecking order since Osimhen's arrival.

The Nigerian striker has delivered 19 goals and seven assists in 30 appearances this season, despite multiple injury setbacks. Alongside him, Baris Alper Yilmaz, Yunus Akgun and Leroy Sane will carry the attacking threat, with Lucas Torreira anchoring the midfield.

Fenerbahce will look to Anderson Talisca to spearhead the attack, while much of the creative burden falls on Kerem Akturkoglu, facing his former club in a high-stakes encounter.

For Buruk, a fourth consecutive title with Galatasaray is within reach. His derby record against Fenerbahce is impressive: five wins, three draws, and just two defeats, with a commanding 15-6 goal difference.

Fenerbahce, meanwhile, travel to the European side of Istanbul nearly at full strength, missing only Edson Alvarez. Tedesco struck a confident tone ahead of the clash:

"We will win. There's no other way. If we do, our rivals will feel the pressure in the final three rounds."

Defensively, both teams have been among the league's best, conceding the fewest goals, thanks in large part to goalkeepers Ugurcan Cakir and Ederson.

Earlier this season, the two sides played out a 1-1 draw when Fenerbahce hosted, while Galatasaray claimed a 2-0 win in the Turkish Super Cup. Now, with everything on the line, Istanbul braces for a derby that could define the season.
