Barcelona icon refuses to rule out Bernabeu switch as his reputation soars following Como's historic first-ever European qualification
Cesc Fabregas may be deeply associated with Barcelona, but the rapidly rising coach has made it clear that managing Real Madrid one day is not something he would automatically reject.
Fresh off guiding Como 1907 to the first European qualification in the club's history, Fabregas continues to attract growing attention from some of Europe's biggest clubs - including Madrid and former side Chelsea.
Despite the speculation, the former midfielder insists he remains fully committed to Como's ambitious long-term project.
"I'm a shareholder in the club, I saw a project here to begin my coaching career, and I'm very calm," Fabregas said during an interview with Cadena COPE.
"I have a contract, I'm happy, and this is a place that allows me to grow. I'm even involved in the signings."
Fabregas has earned widespread praise for transforming Como into one of the most exciting stories in Italian football. After climbing from the lower divisions in recent years, the club has now secured a place in Europe under the Spaniard's leadership, dramatically accelerating his reputation as one of football's brightest young coaches.
And while many expected the La Masia graduate to dismiss the idea of ever coaching Real Madrid, Fabregas instead left the door surprisingly open.
"I don't have a red line," he explained. "The only thing I've always been clear about is that I don't want to be an assistant coach. I want to be a head coach."
"As for Real Madrid? I honestly haven't even thought about it. I haven't had time.”
Fabregas also revealed his admiration for Luis Enrique and the work he has done over the last two seasons, but admitted the one manager he wishes he could have played under was Carlo Ancelotti, particularly because of the Italian's man-management skills.
The Como boss was also asked about the recent tension surrounding Vinicius Junior and his reaction to being substituted during El Clasico under Xabi Alonso.
Fabregas made it clear where he stands when it comes to dressing-room authority.
"You always have to think about the team first," he said. "Nobody is above the team. Nobody is stronger than the group."
"If you have a united dressing room, anyone trying to disrupt things will eventually lose against the strength of the collective."
Fabregas also confirmed he has not spoken with Madrid about the future of Nico Paz, although he believes another season at Como would benefit the young midfielder's development.
