The Nerazzurri aim to steady their Scudetto charge following a setback in the Milan derby, while Atalanta arrive hoping to recover from a heavy European defeat

League leaders Inter Milan welcome regional rivals Atalanta BC to the iconic San Siro on Saturday in a crucial clash in the Serie A title race.

The Nerazzurri aim to steady their Scudetto charge following a setback in the Milan derby, while Atalanta arrive hoping to recover from a heavy European defeat.

With both sides eager to return to winning ways, this encounter promises an intriguing tactical contest between two attack-minded teams.

Inter currently sit top of the Serie A standings with 67 points from 28 matches, boasting 22 wins, one draw and five defeats with a commanding goal difference of +42.

Despite leading the title race, recent form has been slightly inconsistent.

Inter have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six matches across all competitions, including a narrow 1-0 loss to city rivals AC Milan last weekend.

Over their last five games they have scored five goals and conceded six, averaging one goal per match.

However, their home form remains strong, highlighted by a comfortable 2-0 victory over Genoa and a solid defensive record that sees them concede less than one goal per game on average this season.

The hosts are expected to line up in their familiar 3-5-2 system under coach Cristian Chivu.

The attacking department could receive a boost with the potential return of star striker Lautaro Martínez, who has been recovering from a hamstring problem but leads the Serie A scoring charts with 14 goals.

Marcus Thuram remains another major attacking threat with 12 goals, while wing-back Federico Dimarco has been instrumental creatively, providing a league-high 15 assists and contributing to 21 goals overall.

However, midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu is unlikely to feature due to ongoing fitness concerns.

Visitors Atalanta arrive in seventh place with 46 points from 28 matches, keeping them within reach of the European qualification spots.

Their campaign has been respectable but inconsistent, with 12 wins, 10 draws and six losses so far.

Recent performances have produced mixed results, as they have managed two wins, two draws and two defeats in their last six matches.

Their most recent outing was particularly damaging as they suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat at home to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, a result that could affect morale heading into this fixture.

Domestically, Atalanta also dropped points last weekend after a 2-2 draw with Udinese, extending their winless run to four matches in all competitions.

Over their last five matches they have scored 10 goals but conceded 13, highlighting defensive vulnerabilities despite their attacking potential.

Away from home their struggles have been more evident, failing to win six of their last seven away games while conceding regularly.

Coach Raffaele Palladino will look to striker Gianluca Scamacca to lead the attack after scoring eight league goals this season, while midfield leader Mario Pašalić remains a key contributor from deeper areas.

However, the visitors are dealing with several injury concerns, with Charles De Ketelaere, Giacomo Raspadori and Ederson all struggling with fitness issues that may limit their options.

Head-to-head statistics strongly favor Inter in this fixture.

The Nerazzurri have dominated recent meetings and remain unbeaten against Atalanta since 2018, winning each of the last nine encounters.

Their most recent clash in December ended in a 1-0 victory for Inter away from home.

Key Betting Stats;

  • Atalanta BC are winless in their last 16 meetings against Inter Milan
