Black Stars profit from shaky Swiss defence and show a recipe for Cameroon to follow in the World Cup

Mohammed Salisu and Antoine Semenyo scored in the second half to give Ghana a nice 2-0 win over fellow World Cup participants Switzerland on Thursday afternoon. The match played at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi revealed Swiss weaknesses in defence and potentially gave Cameroon a recipe for how to beat the Swiss when they meet in their Group H match in Qatar.

A strong-looking Switzerland side fielded by coach Murat Yakin included Manuel Akanji, Granit Xhaka, Xherdan Shaqiri, Breel Embolo and, most importantly, talisman goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who recovered from his injury. But the European side failed to get a shot on target all match and can thank Sommer for not falling to an even more convincing defeat today.

The Ayew brothers, Inaki Williams and Daniel Afriyie, provided constant threats despite leaving the majority of ball possession to their opponents. Otto Addo's backline of Tariq Lamptey, Daniel Amartey, Mohammed Salisu and Rahman Baba looks very focused and solid.

Arsenal fans were especially intrigued by the occasion as their two most prominent central midfield players faced off. However, Thomas Partey never made it off the bench for Ghana, while his fellow Gunner Xhaka captained the Swiss and played the full 90 minutes.

Mikel Arteta's favoured duo were seen having a laugh and a joke with each other before going their separate ways ahead of the start of the World Cup on Sunday.
