The Nigerian striker faces not just a certain knee surgery, but much more is at stake
Victor Boniface's season in Bremen is hanging by a thread.
Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen are aligned: the Nigerian striker needs knee surgery. Now the final call is Boniface's - and it could decide not only his season, but his immediate future.
On loan until 2026, the 25-year-old Nigerian was supposed to solve Werder's attacking problems. Instead, he leaves behind 11 Bundesliga appearances, zero goals and a lingering knee injury that refuses to heal. According to Bild, surgery is strongly recommended, with both clubs convinced it is the safest path.
If Boniface goes under the knife, his season is over. If he refuses, Werder are unlikely to play him again anyway, fearing a serious aggravation that could threaten his career. Either way, his time in Bremen appears to be ending before it ever truly began.

Currently in Nigeria, Boniface is expected back in Germany shortly for decisive talks. What is already clear: he is not expected to feature for Werder Bremen again this season - and an early return to Leverkusen is firmly on the table.
